  Chemistry Cards - 3-Card Draw

Objective

In this card game your objective is to get as many points as possible by making the best hands.  You are awarded points as follows:

  • 4 points for three elements in a row, vertically or horizontally
  • 2 points for two elements in a row, vertically or horizontally
  • 1 point for correctly identifying the elements on the periodic table
  • 0 points for incorrectly identifying the elements

Description of Game

The deck has 54 cards, representing the same elements and sets of elements as the Chemistry Cards.  You can learn more about the deck and cards by clicking on the links on the right for descriptions of the deck and cards.  You will notice that the cards in this game have much less information than the actual Chemistry Cards and are not color-coded.

You will be dealt three cards.  You decide which cards to keep based on trying to get two or three elements in a row, either across or down.  After selecting the cards to keep you will receive (or "draw") your replacement cards.  For each card, you will then click on the appropriate element on the periodic table.

After you click on the elements on the periodic table you will receive your points as discussed above in the objective. You can then deal a new hand.  The game will end when there are not enough cards to complete a hand.  The highest possible score is 72, based on getting 3-in-row on 18 hands.

40 cards in the deck represent specific elements. 14 cards  represent types of elements.  For example, the Any Metal card can be used for any metal. When you have a card that represents a type of elements, you can click on any appropriate element of the specified type.

One card represents semi-metals (metalloids).  While the semi-metals are typically found along the staircase on the periodic table, there is not universal agreement as to which elements are semi-metals.  For this game, the following elements are considered to be semi-metals: Boron, Silicon, Germanium, Arsenic, Antimony, Tellurium,  and Polonium.
